Shreveport's Southside Titans 10 & 12-year-old youth football team won't have much time to relax this Thanksgiving week. The kids will be in Memphis, Tennessee from Nov. 30 - Dec. 3 for the Blues City Youth Football Classic.
The kids come from across Shreveport and Bossier and practice at Hyde Park off of Kingston Road. Rod Brooks has been the teams's coach for the past eight years, and last year led the 10-year-olds to a tournament win in Arkansas. You can click here to see the team in action.
When the kids return from Memphis, they'll continue to practice for their next road trip. From Dec. 21 - 23, the Titans will be in New Orleans for the Gumbo Bowl. They'll also go to the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on December 22 in the Superdome and have a chance to take part in the Punt, Pass & Kickoff Contest.
Between now and the trip to New Orleans, the team will continue to seek donations and possibly hold a fundraiser to pay for the transportation, hotel and food needed for New Orleans. Coach Brooks said he'll send pictures and let us know how the team is doing. We wish the Southside Titans and Coach Brooks safe travels and good luck.
Coaches: Head Coach - Rod Brooks, Assistant Coaches: Mark McCray, Rodney Hardy, and David Douglas.
