City of Shreveport to host Mentoring Fair

Mayor Cedric Glover on Thursday (October 20) will announce details for the City of Shreveport Mentoring Fair scheduled to be held Oct. 29, 2011, at Mall St. Vincent.

The purpose of the fair is to allow local organizations a collective opportunity to recruit mentors for their respective programs. Last year, 11 organizations participated and even more are expected to sign up this year.

The press conference will be held at 10 a.m. in the Mayor’s conference room on the 2nd floor of Government Plaza.

Tonight, at 6:00 p.m., Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover, Fire Chief Ronald Mulford and the Shreveport Fire Training Academy staff will conduct a graduation ceremony for seventeen recruits who have successfully passed 22 weeks of rigorous training which has qualified them to be called firefighters.

USA Dance Shreveport to host Black and White Ball on Oct. 22

USA Dance Shreveport's annual Black and White Ball will be from 7:30 - 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 22 in the LSUS University Ballroom. Tickets must be purchased in advance by October 15th. There will be no ticket sales at the door. Admission is $50 for adults and $25 for children.

Shreveport's Eden Gardens Fundamental Elementary School was named one of the 2011 National Blue Ribbon School on Thursday. The honor was handed down to just six schools in Louisiana and 305 nationwide for their overall academic excellence or for their success in overcoming and closing achievement gaps.
