SPAR spring break camps enrolling now

SPAR spring break camps enrolling now

SPAR is hosting spring camps March 26-30, from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at each of its 15 community centers.

The spring camps will inclue games, movies, field trips, and other activities for youth ages 6-12 and teens ages 12-17.

Space is limited and will be filled first come, first serve. Registration for the camps is required and open.

BPCC and NSU reach academic agreement

Bossier Parish Community College Chancellor Jim Henderson and Northwestern State University President Randall Webb will be signing an academic agreement today between the two colleges.

The agreement will conclude a two-year effort to articulate all of NSU’s baccalaureate degrees with a BPCC associate degree.  

The agreement and signing will take place March 13th at 3:30 p.m. at BPCC in building A, room 230.

LSUS seeking volunteers for upcoming Social Studies Fair

Louisiana State University in Shreveport wil serve as host for the 37th Annual Region I Social Studies Fair, and they're asking for volunteers to serve as judges.

The fair will be Thursday, March 8 in the University Center. The Fair is sponsored by The Division of Continuing Education and Public Service at LSUS.

KSLA News 12’s Domonique Benn was at Claiborne Fundamental Magnet Friday morning for a big celebration.

 Friday was Dr. Seuss’s birthday and children all across America celebrated with “Read Across America Day”.

Volunteers like Domonique read to classes on this special day.  The event, created by the National Education Association, is a day to celebrate reading. Most of the event's related activities happen in schools and libraries across the country.  Domonique read a favorite--“Green Eggs & Ham” to Ms. Adams, Kindergarten class.

Slam Dunk Contest & Concert this weekend at SUSLA

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) along with Academy Sports & Outdoors presents a Slam Dunk Contest & Concert on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 7:30pm at Southern University Shreveport.  The event will be hosted by Radio Station KMJJ DJ Dougie Styles. Performing will be hip-hop group SJ Boyz.  Admission to the event is free.

Centenary, First United Methodist choirs hosting free performance

The combined choirs of the First United Methodist Church and Centenary College will host a free special debut performance of James Eakin’s Flowers Over the Graves of War. The performance will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church. The church is located at the head of Texas Street in downtown Shreveport. There will be a full orchestra with the choirs and the performance is free and open to the public.
