BPCC ready to run 4th Annual Go-Kart race

The 4th Annual BPCC 100 Go-Kart Races runs from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 22 at the Bossier Parish Community College campus, 6220 E. Texas Street in Bossier City.

The event raises money to help support the BPCC student scholarship fund.

Team-sponsored, customized go-karts zip around a race track as they compete for trophies. Teams also compete for prizes in various categories:  Best Looking Car; Best Dressed Pit Crew and Fastest Pit Crew.

Local community development group offers free Summer Camp for kids

“A Cultural Experience” is a free Summer Camp for Shreveport area kids.

Two sessions are available. The first session is scheduled to begin, June 4 -21 and July 9-19 at the New Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 2332 Jewella Ave.

“A Cultural Experience” will be held from 8a.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday – Thursday and open to school-age students K-10th grade. High school students in 11th and 12th grade may volunteer to help with the program.

Shreve Memorial Library system millage renewals on Apr. 21st ballot

The Caddo Parish Commission has propositions on the April 21st ballot to renew the two Shreve Memorial Library system millages.  Both are essential to keep open all city and parish library branches.

Proposition No. 1 renews the existing tax millage enabling the library system to acquire books, digital content, material, and equipment, as well as to operate the library's twenty-one branches and bookmobile throughout the Parish.

Caddo H.S. student excels in local and regional science fairs

Caddo H.S. student excels in local and regional science fairs

Christina Collins, a senior at Caddo Parish Magnet High School in Shreveport along with students of the Science and Medicine Academic Research Training (SMART) Program, won 1st place Overall at the Region I Science and Engineering Fair and placed 1st in Biochemistry and a special award from the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center in Shreveport for cancer research.

Collins also competed in the Louisiana State Science and Engineering Fair in Baton Rouge and again won 1st place overall while also winning 1st place in Biochemistry
