SPAR youth basketball league games to start January 14

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) Athletics Division kicks off its 1st week of Boys & Girls Youth Basketball League games on Monday, January 14.

Games are played throughout the city of Shreveport at AB Palmer, Airport Park, Bill Cockrell, Lakeside and Southern Hills.

SPAR sets annual MLK basketball tourney

Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation (SPAR) will host the 25th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Basketball Tournament from February 22 to 24. This tournament is designed to unite men, women and youth of all ethnic backgrounds for three days of fun and community unity.  Over $3,000 of cash prizes and awards will be given to championship teams.

Shreveport's Southside Titans roll through Gumbo Bowl

During the Christmas Break, the Southside Titans' 10 & 12-year-old football teams headed to New Orleans for the Gumbo Bowl. Youth football teams from across the south came to New Orleans for the tournament. The Titans come from Shreveport and Bossier City and play in the Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation youth league.

SPAR accepting golf memberships for 2013

Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation golf membership for 2013 is now available for signup.

Memberships are for either 6 months or a year and allow the holder unlimited rounds of golf on both Querbes and Huntington Golf Courses. (Huntington is currently closed for renovation work related to the Shreveport Bond Project.)

SPAR announces winter camps

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation Winter Camps for youth will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 24, Dec. 26 - 31, and Jan. 2 - 4 at each of SPAR's community centers.

Youth between age 6 and 11 and teens between age 12 and 17 participate in activities including exercise, games, field trips, and arts and crafts. Some centers also offer tennis and weightlifting.
