Caddo judge named CASA Judge of the Year

The Honorable Shonda D. Stone was awarded Court Appointed Special Advocates Judge of the Year for the State of Louisiana at the annual CASA "Together We Can" Conference in Lafayette.

Judge Stone serves as Caddo Parish Juvenile Court Judge and presides over delinquency, status offenses, abuse and neglect, child support, and adoption matters.

The basic criteria for this award was an individual that demonstrated leadership and innovation in promoting CASA within the judicial community and to the public, makes a significant contribution to the advancement of children’s issues and exhibits exceptional leadership by furthering consistent quality representation of children.

The CASA program trains volunteers to look out for the child’s best interest. These specially trained volunteers serve as officers of the court and “friends” to children in need. These volunteer advocates are assigned by judges to speak on behalf of children who have been placed in foster care due to abuse or neglect. Their primary objective is to ensure that each child is placed in a safe, permanent home.
