Caddo H.S. student excels in local and regional science fairs | Events
Christina Collins, a senior at Caddo Parish Magnet High School in Shreveport along with students of the Science and Medicine Academic Research Training (SMART) Program, won 1st place Overall at the Region I Science and Engineering Fair and placed 1st in Biochemistry and a special award from the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center in Shreveport for cancer research.
Collins also competed in the Louisiana State Science and Engineering Fair in Baton Rouge and again won 1st place overall while also winning 1st place in Biochemistry and three special awards.
Christina will be representing the state of Louisiana as she continues on to compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair on the week of May 13th in Pittsburgh, PA. Christina's SMART Program mentor is Dr. Yunfeng Zhao of the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Neuroscience at the LSU Health-Sciences Center in Shreveport.
The Caddo Parish School Board will acknowledge Christina and others at a district board meeting on April 17, 2012, at 4:30 pm. Christina and other students of the SMART Program will also be acknowledged for their research on April 18th, 2012, at 11:00 am at the Downtown Petroleum Club.
