The 10 & 12-year-old Southside Titans football teams spent the first weekend of December in Memphis for the Blues City Bowl, playing teams from as far away as Missouri and Illinois.

The 10-year-old team's first game was against the Union City Lions. Running Back Jordan Douglas didn't pass the weight limit to be a ball carrier, so Detyln Maxie, aka "Speedy", spent most of the time on the field. The Lions ran the ball in for a touchdown just before halftime. They also scored on a field goal (teams in the SPAR league don't kick field goals), another touchdown and a two-point conversion. Despite their best efforts, the team lost to the Lions 16-0.

On Sunday, the team lost their first game so they played the Chicago Ravens to decide 3rd place. Detyln Maxie was able to play in this game and scored four touchdowns on 12, 20, 40 and 60-yard runs. Quarterback Tearance Washington had a touchdown pass and a couple of extra point throws as well, with the Titans shutting out the Ravens 33-0.

Saturday's first game for the 12-year-old Titan team was against the St. Louis Wildcats. Jamal Portis took a kickoff back 80 yards for one score and added two more touchdowns with runs of seven and 15-yards out. The Titans won the game 30-0.

Sunday the 12-year-old Titans had an all-Louisiana game playing against the Baton Rouge Saints. Malcolm Hall was hurt in the game on Saturday, and Jamal Portis was hurt in first quarter of Sunday's game, leaving the team with only 12 players. The loss of another player due to an infraction left the Titans with only 11 players. The Saints garnered a 16-0 lead going into the half, but the Titans' defense kept the team in the game. Kevian Henderson got one interception which led to one touchdown, and a second interception was run all the way back for the team's second interception. The Titans would not get the ball back afterwards and lost the game 16-14.

Unfortunately, the 12-year-olds would not play for third place due to injuries and transportation concerns.

The teams head to south Louisiana later in the month for a tournament in New Orleans. Coach Roderick Brooks will get us more video and a full update on the teams' results when they return.
