New Horizons to offer free tax preparation | Business

New Horizons Independent Living Center in Shreveport is offering free tax preparation and tax filing by a qualified and certified preparer.

The free service will be offered between January 30 and April 15 for household income at $51,000 and below. (The service is not available to those filing "Married Filing Separately. If filing "Married Filing Jointly," the spouse must be present at the time of the appointment.)

To make an appointment to have your taxes done at New Horizons, call 318-671-8131, 318-459-9233 or 318-671-5301. Appointments will be scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday -- later when times available -- and between 10 a.m. and Noon on Saturday.

New Horizons is located at 8508 Line Ave, Suite D., in Shreveport.

New Horizons asks that you arrive 15 minutes before the appointment time to fill out the intake paperwork, which will help ensure that your taxes are prepared correctly.

Bring the following to the appointment:

Proof of Identity (such as driver’s license or other picture ID)
Social Security Cards (or ITIN letters) for you and all persons on your return
Tax information such as Forms W-2, 1099, 1098
Proof of account for Direct Deposit of Refund (voided check, account card)
If possible also bring: a copy of last year’s return.
