Mayor Glover: City to employ 200+ this summer

The City of Shreveport will employ more than 200 youth and young adults between ages 16 and 21 via its summer jobs program.

Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover announced on Thursday details of the program, which includes interships designed for college students who will be placed in various city departments.

Participants will work at a variety of public and private organizations and perform tasks ranging from clerical aides, recreation aides, accounting clerks to library aides, tutors and maintenance assistants.

Holiday in Dixie to host first BBQ cook-off

The Holiday in Dixie Ambassadors Club will host the inaugural Holiday in Dixie BBQ Cook-Off from 3 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 in the riverfront area of Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport.

Admission is $10 and includes three BBQ sample tickets. Additional sample tickets may be purchased for $1. Proceeds raised at the event will benefit the Holiday in Dixie Senior Essay Scholarship for Caddo and Bossier Parish students.
