The Shreveport Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will launch its new Noel Foundation, Inc. Chamber Music Series at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, in Anderson Auditorium at Centenary College’s Hurley School of Music. Guest pianist Jon Nakamatsu will perform with SSO musicians in an intimate setting.

Sci-Port recognized as 2012 Attraction of the Year

Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center received the Louisiana Travel & Promotion Association’s 2012 Louey Award for the Attraction of the Year Thursday in Lake Charles. Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne presented the award to Sci-Port’s President/CEO Ann Fumarolo.

“It is truly an honor for Sci-Port to receive this award,” said Fumarolo. “We are so appreciative of the support from the state and our local tourist bureau for helping bring more visitors to see Sci-Port and what we offer the community.”

Education and Career Fair aimed at helping youth

St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and Southern University in Shreveport have come together to host an Education and Career Fair, taking place from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 26 at the Jesse N. Stone Lecture Hall on the Southern University campus, 3050 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

SPAR sets annual MLK basketball tourney

Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation (SPAR) will host the 25th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Basketball Tournament from February 22 to 24. This tournament is designed to unite men, women and youth of all ethnic backgrounds for three days of fun and community unity.  Over $3,000 of cash prizes and awards will be given to championship teams.
