Shreveport Opera will be holding chorus auditions for individuals aged 16 and up on  Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 6-9 p.m. at the Hurley School of Music, Anderson Auditorium at Centenary College.

SPD release video of suspect who robbed Family Dollar store

Shreveport Police have released video footage of a suspect who robbed a west Shreveport dollar store last week.

About 8:20 p.m. on July 26, police responded to a reported robbery at the Family Dollar in the 3800 block of Linwood Avenue. Witnesses told police a male suspect entered the store and purchased a pack of chewing gum. As the clerk was opening the register to complete the transaction, the man allegedly reached into a tote bag and raised it up as if he was concealing a weapon.

The cost for businesses is $25.00. Community service agencies only have to donate a book or door prize.

LA Association for the Blind offering new products to promote breast cancer awareness

The Louisiana Association for the Blind has launched a new line of products that will create 12 new jobs and help support breast cancer awareness. The LAB says 15% of the proceeds from every item purchased will be donated toward breast cancer awareness programs and research.

The products include legal pads in 5” x 8” and 8 ½” x 11” sizes in pink and white with a pink leatherette binding at the top and the words “Breast Cancer Awareness” with the ribbon symbol embossed in white.  Pink “Recipe for Prevention” 5” x 8” recipe cards complete the offering.

Guy's Academy offering free haircuts to students

Guy's Academy in the Shreve City Shopping Center will have its 3rd Annual Free Haircuts for school-age children in grades K-12. The free haircuts will be on August 2, 3 & 4 and on August 9, 10, & 11. Also from August 2-31, anyone who donates unopened school supplies will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate (1 entry per visit).
