Cinderella Project to host first prom dress giveaway

With the average cost of a prom ticket approaching $60, buying a dress, shoes, a purse and accessories can add up.

That's why a volunteer group called The Cinderella Project has set up its first dress giveaway in Shreveport. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Shreveport Police Department honored some of its own last night at the department’s annual Employee Appreciation Awards Banquet.

The banquet, held at Riverview Hall, attracted such dignitaries as Mayor and Mrs. Cedric B. Glover, Caddo Parish District Attorney Charles Scott, Shreveport City Councilman Sam Jenkins, Shreveport City Marshal Charlie Caldwell and Shreveport Fire Department Assistant Chief Fred Sanders. The soiree was sponsored by the North Shreveport Business Association.

The Shreveport Dog Park Alliance is holdng a "Throw Me a Bone" fundraiser at MoJo's starting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 8. Donations at the door will go to the Dog Park Alliance.

Remember the old fire station at 801 Crockett St. in downtown Shreveport? Now, it's been renovated and houses an art space.

Central ARTSTATION is holding a grand opening of the new space between 4:30 and 8 p.m. today, Feb. 28. The renovation of this historic building will provide offices for SRAC’s administrative staff. Also, it also will act as a developmental space for artists and arts organizations with dedicated areas.
