The Mardi Gras Krewe of Aesclepius and Raising Cane’s at Pierre Bossier Mall will be hosting a Mardi Gras Bead Recycling Drive.

The drive is scheduled for Saturday, May 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Free “Hidden History Tour” this weekend in downtown Shreveport

Saturday, May 12 from 1-4 p.m. the Downtown Development Authority of Shreveport, Downtown Shreveport Unlimited, Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau, and Louisiana Bicentennial host a downtown trolley tour focusing on some of downtown’s most intriguing places and spaces.

The 'free' tour is scheduled to begin at the Municipal Auditorium, where Elvis once roamed the halls.

2012 Fit for Life challenge this weekend, May 12

The Fit for Life Sports Weekend takes place May 12-13 and will feature more than 20,000 athletes from around the world competing in a variety of sporting events throughout Shreveport and Bossier.  

Bodybuilding, strongman competitions and arm wrestling are just a few of the varying athletes and sports you will see competing at the Shreveport Convention Center.  

Admission is $20 per person at the Shreveport Convention Center on Saturday, May 12 and will give spectators access to all events throughout the day.

The Shreveport Bicycle Club will sponsor a Ride of Silence Memorial Service on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Stoner parking lot beside the Skateboard Park.

This will be a gathering to recognize those cyclists who have been injured while riding the local roads of Caddo and Bossier Parish.

The Shreveport Bar Association presented Reverend R. Henry Martin with its Liberty Bell Award during its member luncheon at the Petroleum Club. The Liberty Bell Award is awarded each year to an individual outside of the legal profession who has made significant contributions to the community.

Reverend Martin, a licensed substance abuse counselor and ordained minister, serves as the Executive Director of the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission.
